Ecclesiastes 2:11

THE OUTWARD LIFE OF A STEWARD
Avoiding Meaninglessness

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.

King Solomon, one of the richest men who ever lived, shares a telling assessment of his lifelong pursuit of gaining and enjoying wealth. He tragically confesses in Ecclesiastes 2:11, Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun (NIV). How tragically sad that after a lifetime of amassing material wealth, Solomon concludes that it was all meaningless. As followers of Christ, living in a land of abundance, we must be very careful not to make the same mistake. It would be a shame to spend our entire lives climbing the ladder of success only to discover, once we are at the top, that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall. Think about it.
