Philippians 2:3

THE OUTWARD LIFE OF A STEWARD
Choosing a Lifestyle

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

Paul presents us with a most challenging lifestyle command in Philippians 2:3. He exhorts us, Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves (NIV 1984). There is absolutely no way, without the aid of the Holy Spirit, we will ever be able to humble ourselves to this extent, having this attitude in us which was also in Christ Jesus. We cannot continue to sit on the throne of our life, and see others as more important than ourselves. To obey this command, we must get off our thrones and gladly go to the end of every line, lie at the bottom of every pile, and give up so others might have. It sounds a lot like the way Jesus lived, doesn’t it? Think about it.
