Understanding Ownership
So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done.’
Understanding that we are stewards and not the owners of all the Lord has put in our care totally changes how we see the part we play in deploying His resources, where and when He directs. Ministries always want to recognize and honor people for their giving. But Jesus offers us a totally different perspective on giving and receiving personal acknowledgement. Jesus tells us how a slave should respond when doing the will of his master in Luke 17:10, So you too, when you do all the things which are commanded you, say, ‘We are unworthy slaves; we have done only that which we ought to have done’ (NASB1995). In other words, “What’s the big deal? I only delivered what the Master told me to deliver.” Think about it.
